In a rabbit hutch there is a dorr with mesh on it for light, but at one side there is a dark part where the door is completely covered in wood to stop light coming through.
Where abouts in the cage should I place the rabbit nestbox?
I'm a rabbit breeder. Place your nestbox in the darkest most private area you have. I've been known to use a cat cube that they sell at walmart on the cheap, but I have wooden nest boxes too. The darker the area and the more private, the better.
If you have any bunny fur around, place that inside so that the doe understands - but she most likely will figure it out.
If this is your first time and also the bunnies, be prepared for just anything to happen.
Don't place the nest box in until you feel sure she is about to kindle in the next day, or she may stupidly start using it as a toilet.
It is good to have at least two boxes because not matter what happens, by the end of the first week after the bunnies are born, the original box is going to start to get rank.
I live in the inner city, and it's impossible to find hay. I have three house rabbits, but until now, they've just been happy eating cardboard. Something tells me this isn't the best substitute for the hay that they need in their diets… What should I be giving them instead?
I went to one of those city run animal farms in a small park and got a flake of hay from them - that was a good four months ago and I still have half of it left. The local pet stores still carry it, but I was skeptical of it's freshnesh. I also give my rabbit shredded wheat.
any tips on raising rabbits to keep them living long?!
their favorite treats?!
what breed should the male be to breed them?!
do stores buy mixed breeds?!
do stores buy pure breed?!
more tips on anything please!!
Do you know that you can give:
Oatmeal( As a treat, or if you want, as a DAILY treat.)
Tea ( prefferably orange pekoe or nothing too fruity, strong, or already sweetened. Do not sweeten tea. Make sure you let them drink water sometimes though.
Tea helps control the musky odor of a rabbit's urine. It stops it from being too strong.)
Hairball Treatment: Meat Tenderizer
(Yep, just sprinkle a little bit of meat tenderizer into the bunny's drinking water. After a few days, be sure to change it to regular water.)
More of crumbles the mini lops. Just having a little munch on some dinner

The rabbit project is a great project to boost a disadvantage families income or provide more food for the table, a few rabbit can be maintained with vegetable scraps and local vegetation, the biggest expense is rabbit feed which must be fed rabbits a minimum of every other day. A natural rabbit feed recipe can be found on my blog to reduce costs to minimal levels.
